Ah Lye Curry Fish Head 亞來咖哩魚頭 is a Chinese restaurant anchored in Subang Jaya’s SS19 neighborhood, known principally for its Malaysian-style curry fish head—a dish that draws both longtime locals and fans of hearty, aromatic curries. The restaurant’s location, a short drive from popular shopping hubs like Subang Parade and Nu Empire, makes it a convenient spot for a casual lunch or dinner where the focus is on boldly flavored, comforting fare rather than fine dining ambiance.

Step inside, and you’ll find a no-frills, practical setting that suits families, groups of friends, and anyone hankering for a rice-drenched meal. The vibe is straightforward and unpretentious, with a steady flow of customers who clearly come for the food rather than atmosphere. Service tends to be quick, which suits those who want a satisfying meal without long waits.

The signature dish, the curry fish head, lives up to its reputation with a rich and creamy curry that is fragrant but balanced—spicy enough to excite your palate without overwhelming it. The fish itself is fresh and tender, perfectly absorbing the curry’s complexity. Most diners seem to pair it with generous helpings of plain white rice, ideal for soaking up the curry sauce (or as locals would say, to “banjir” the rice).

Beyond the fish head, the menu offers a range of other dishes that complement the main attraction. Assam prawns (tamarind prawns) stand out with their tangy, sweet, and savory notes, providing a nice contrast to the curry’s richness. Fried kangkung belacan, stir-fried vegetables, and fried bean sprouts with salted fish add textural variety and refresh the palate between spoonfuls of curry. Fans of meat tend to enjoy the crispy Nam Yu (fermented red tofu) pork and fried lobak (turnip rolls), which bring a satisfying crunch and depth of flavor.

Regulars often mention the herbal chicken and the seafood claypot, suggesting the kitchen takes care in preparing other dishes beyond their star attraction. The place feels best during lunch and early dinner hours when tables fill with groups eager to share several plates and savor the classics together.

If you’re a fan of curry fish head or Malaysian Chinese-style comfort food, Ah Lye delivers solidly without fuss. It’s a spot where flavor and familiarity come first, set in a simple dining space that encourages focus on the food rather than frills or décor. This is the kind of restaurant where you come ready to eat well, chat over rice and curries, and leave with the taste of a crowd-pleasing local dish lingering in your memory.

Been awhile since I came back to this curry fish head place. Glad that they are able to maintain the taste and flavours. The curry is really fragrant and lemak, best to banjir on the rice. Steam squid also very well done, tender and not rubbery. Tamarind prawns were yummy, the sauce savoury, sour and sweet, nice mix of flavours. Nam yu crispy pork is good too.

If you are looking for a Chinese Restaurant with fantastic fish head curry in Subang Jaya, Ah Lyes Curry Fish Head Restaurant is the place. The Fish Head Curry and Otak Otak (Brain Brain) is shockalingam, Yummylicious, slurpylicious and each bite will make your mouth salivate like it has never salivated before. Wash it down coconut water (good for your dotter).

This shop originally from Taiping town and they are specializing on curry fish head. For those curry fish head 10/10 lovers, this is a must come place. The service is fast most of their dishes are sedap gila!! The Assam big prawn (tamarind prawn) 10/10 will be a great combo to go with the curry. Their fried pork 9/10 & their bak kien (lobak) 9/10 is perfectly done. Will definitely come back again and again. This place does not take reservations so only walk in and the good news is they open all year long. Only cny they will be closed for a few days.

Ah Lye Curry Fish Head is a great spot for those craving rich, flavorful Malaysian-style curry fish head. Located less than 5 min drive from Subang Parade / Nu Empire Subang. The curry fish head is aromatic and well-balanced, not overly spicy but still packed with flavor. The fish is fresh, tender, and cooked perfectly, absorbing all the delicious curry goodness. Besides the signature dish, the menu offers a variety of classic Chinese-style dishes that pair well with rice, such as butter prawns, tofu, and stir-fried vegetables. As we order 4 dishes (small size) for 3 adults. The portion seems small. So we do recommend to have at least 1-2 dishes to be in medium size. Total bill - less than RM100 include 2 glass plain water. The restaurant is simple and unpretentious, with a casual, no-frills dining atmosphere. It can get quite busy during peak hours, so service might be a little slow at times, but the staff remains friendly and efficient. Overall, a solid place for a satisfying curry fish head meal! Would definitely return. open DAILY 12pm-3pm / 5.30pm-9pm recommend you to be early before 6pm, as the place will be packed with people by then.

One of my favorite curry fish head place. It is thick and creamy that is good with a lot of rice. Their asam prawn is also one of my go to food - big prawns. Not to miss their stir fried bean sprouts with salted fish.
